There isn’t a Union without “U” and “I”
I know the title is corny, but I find it to be true. All too often people see “the union” as leadership or staff. The word “union” is defined as joining people together. You and I (and about 10,000 other people) are the Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association.
I believe that our path to a stronger union is reaching out to inspire and engage our members. Every single one of us has unique talents and interests. Some are passionate about professional development, others may be interested in community building, legislation, early childhood education, or contract language…to name only a few. As an organization, we should be tapping into and maximizing the individual talents and interests of any member who wishes to be more involved. I believe that it is important for every person to feel that they belong and contribute to our organization.
Our public schools are facing unprecedented challenges. As the experts in our field, we should be the ones leading the way with solutions. Our union is the vehicle for us to implement those solutions. Throughout my campaign you will see the future I envision for HCTA. I will also demonstrate the work I have done to engage our membership and promote unity. Working together our collective voice will empower us as educational professionals.
